Small Business Economic Impact Alliance Discusses Government Effect on Small Business

On September 13th, Karla Lyngvar, co-founder of the Small Business Economic Impact Alliance (SBEIA), will join senator Ted Gaines in participating in a panel discussion to talk about government regulations and the financial burden they place on small business and the local economy through over-regulation. EDF Climate Corps program

The Environmental Defense Fund has developed a program to help businesses understand - in dollars and cents - how energy efficiency and energy management can save them hundreds and thousands of dollars.   For a period of 10 weeks, from May - September, Fortune 1000 businesses can hire an "EDF Fellow" - a MBA graduate student - who will look at a company's energy data and identify opportunities to save or reduce energy consumption.  For more information visit http://edfclimatecorps.org/

Joel Salatin on Why Food, Farms, and Eating Local Matter

Joel Salatin of Polyface Farm in Virginia was mentioned at the Placer Sustain "Local Food" meeting on August 16th. Salatin is a self-described "environmental capitalist lunatic farmer" and was profiled by Michael Pollan in The Omnivore's Dilemma. He also spoke earlier this year at a Nevada County Grown event. Here is a link to his talk at the Woodstock Farm Festival on "Why Food, Farms, and Eating Local Matter":

Comments on Knowledgbase Wiki

Hi Jeffrey,

I was trying to post an update on what has moved forward with HAALo on the posting page of our Letter of Intent, but I couldn't write anything in the "comments" section. It kept saying "error on page". Any suggestions?

Olomana Aquaculture Link - encouraging work for all to take note of

We watched an hour long video about this aquaculture farm during our Midwest Permaculture Training at the Sivinanda Ashram Farm in Grass Valley. As the water crisis finally meanders into our global consciousness, this model helps us to realize how useful water is in our day to day lives, and how to make the most of every drop... over and over and over, just as Nature does.

Stopping unwanted catalogues and mail

The organization Catalog Choice allows you to join for free and opt-out of or select how often you want to receive catalogues.  Their list is extensive and I have been using it for months.  It really works and has stopped all unwanted catalogues.  It might seem like a small step but it is a powerful step to save some trees, energy, waste etc.
