My name is Amy Allen and this blog is an appeal to avid gardeners and members of Placer County for help in leading gardening/sustainability workshops at the new Community Gardens at Sierra Christian Church in Loomis. On April 14th, there will be a grand opening event bringing together local vendors, live music and non-profit organizations such as the Gathering Inn, Placer food bank and the local chapter of Heifer International.
Small businesses, and the entrepreneurs that start and grow them are the backbone of the economy, employing 92% of all Californians, and generating 70% of California's tax revenue. In the current business UN-friendly climate, entrepreneurs have to work super hard to keep generating those jobs and revenue for the state.

Aside from sheer beauty, the Sierra Nevada mountain meadows may offer a major solution to managing California's challenging water issues by helping to save the Sierra snowpack.
Healthy mountain meadows store water, acting as natural reservoirs that hold back floodwaters. By slowing the heavy spring flows and releasing them gradually over the dry summer months, healthy watersheds can increase the quantity (and quality) of water available downstream.

Small Business Economic Impact Alliance Discusses Government Effect on Small Business
On September 13th, Karla Lyngvar, co-founder of the Small Business Economic Impact Alliance (SBEIA), will join senator Ted Gaines in participating in a panel discussion to talk about government regulations and the financial burden they place on small business and the local economy through over-regulation. This discussion is part of Good Morning Truckee, a community forum and networking opportunity presented by the Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce.
The Environmental Defense Fund has developed a program to help businesses understand - in dollars and cents - how energy efficiency and energy management can save them hundreds and thousands of dollars. For a period of 10 weeks, from May - September, Fortune 1000 businesses can hire an "EDF Fellow" - a MBA graduate student - who will look at a company's energy data and identify opportunities to save or reduce energy consumption.
