[The following material is a copy of an email sent by Perry Beck as food for thought for the upcoming project planning workshop sponsored by the Sierra Business Council that will be designing a energy conservation/alternative energy program for the Town. This is an open Forum for Loomis related sustainability matters:
HI JEFF
Following the meeting last Friday I took a closer look at the area from Webb to Walnut as an area that might kick off a shed to shed model energy program that would likely have application in other sections of the Taylor Rd business district and in other places beyond Loomis. My thoughts:
USES
Hamburger business building
Subway, Wild Chicken, Photographer (multi-tenant building)
Appliance building
Bank building
Retail Specialty building
Town of Loomis building, parking lot (lighting), park facility
SUSTAINABLE CHALLENGES
Parking lot lighting and electrical use throughout the area for all kinds of events
Individual business energy use varying from intense to the photographer which is likely less than a household
Refuse stream consisting of various kinds of waste (wet and dry)
Landscaped areas
SUSTAINABLE ANSWERS
Use of alternative energy (anticipated to be primarily solar)
Building retrofitting for energy efficiency
Refuse recycling and reuse
Landscape watering techniques
Point being that in this two block area there are opportunities to do a number of things that can help people save money, use resources better, change the way some things are done, and make use of things that haven’t been considered yet. It could be a highly visible show case area for a multitude of ideas and set things up to go toward the Blue Goose shed and toward Sierra College Blvd.
Those are my two cents.
THANKS PERRY
