If you click on your "My Account" link in the main navigation block, click on "Edit," then scroll down to "Block Configuration" you can select which blocks you wish to view when using the site. Right now most of these blocks are fairly useful and you should be careful about un-selecting one, but as the site proceeds there may be more optional blocks that you may use or avoid depending on preference.
