The Grand Opening Festival for the Community Gardens on Saturday April 14th. Held at Sierra Christian Church, this festival is celebrating the ground breaking of the new garden beds and the coming together of those who support community gardening efforts.


Community Gardens Grand Opening Loomis-VOLUNTEERS/INSTRUCTORS NEEDED

My name is Amy Allen and this blog is an appeal to avid gardeners and members of Placer County for help in leading gardening/sustainability workshops at the new Community Gardens at Sierra Christian Church in Loomis. On April 14th, there will be a grand opening event bringing together local vendors, live music and non-profit organizations such as the Gathering Inn, Placer food bank and the local chapter of Heifer International.

Olomana Aquaculture Link - encouraging work for all to take note of

We watched an hour long video about this aquaculture farm during our Midwest Permaculture Training at the Sivinanda Ashram Farm in Grass Valley. As the water crisis finally meanders into our global consciousness, this model helps us to realize how useful water is in our day to day lives, and how to make the most of every drop... over and over and over, just as Nature does.

Breakout Groups for Tonight's PlacerSustain Meeting

We will be going into a 45 minute Breakout segment during tonight's PlacerSustain meeting, and would encourage the participants in last month's session to come and continue the dialogue.  Breakout groups will be formed around the subject interests of those attending.  Last month we had the following groups:  Community/School/Church Gardens, Sustainable Human Health, and Local Grower Market and Business Development.

Maggie Celeste introduces Keyhole Beds

Good morning to PlacerSustain from Maggie Celeste!

I look forward to another day of planting winter seeds in Jeff's 1/2 acre garden in Loomis this morning, as we have done for the past 2 week or more. We are experimenting with long sets of Keyhole beds, an innovation of Permaculturalists (aka 'Permies') which greatly reduces walkway space and opens much more space for agriculture.
