Asking for perspectives on an online approach to farmers market

Recently ran across an advertisement for Farmie Market, an online approach to farmers market.  Interested in getting some perspective from the PS community on the potential of the program.  Do you think this supports "buy local" goals?  Does this create more opportunities? or does it take away from the true sense of community?

Thanks everyone!

Michael

Local Food Resource Directory - 6 county region

At the August 16th meeting of Placer Sustain's Local Food Group, we discussed the need for a "local food resource directory".  The California Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF), a non-profit group out of Davis, publishes a booklet - "Buy Fresh, Buy Local - The Eater's Guide to Local Food" for several regions of California.

Joel Salatin on Why Food, Farms, and Eating Local Matter

Joel Salatin of Polyface Farm in Virginia was mentioned at the Placer Sustain "Local Food" meeting on August 16th. Salatin is a self-described "environmental capitalist lunatic farmer" and was profiled by Michael Pollan in The Omnivore's Dilemma. He also spoke earlier this year at a Nevada County Grown event. Here is a link to his talk at the Woodstock Farm Festival on "Why Food, Farms, and Eating Local Matter":

Chow Locally - ordering from farmers online

Saw this posted on the Wildly Organic Women site on Facebook. It is called Chow Locally. You go online to see what local farmers have for the week, put in your order and pick up at the local farmers market. A really interesting concept. I am including the site because they tell you how you can bring it to your area.

Socially Responsible and Sustainable Capitalism - Great Video! Must Watch.

This promo video of Simon Mainwarning's new book "We First" is a very compelling illustration of the power of being socially responsible and supporting sustainable capitalism, rather than perpetuating the "me first" culture.  Enjoy it here.  Be sure to "like" it and pass it on.
